Paul Balser is a co-founder of Ironwood Management Partners, LLC. He was a founding partner of Generation Partners in 1995, remains a partner of its first fund and served in an advisory capacity and co-invested as a special limited partner in its second fund. The investing strategy of Generation Partners evolved to emphasize companies involved in technology, which was not a focus of interest for him. Prior to founding Generation Partners, Mr. Balser was a founding Partner of Centre Partners L.P., the managing general partner of Centre Capital Investors L.P., a $150 million investment fund whose investors were primarily the partners and affiliates of the predecessor to Lazard Frères & Co. LLC. Prior to this, Mr. Balser was a managing director of J. Henry Schroeder Banking Corp. Throughout his 43-year career, he has been a highly successful investor in a wide variety of industries. He is a graduate of Yale University with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics and a minor in Spanish, and attended New York University Graduate Business School while working full-time from 1964 to 1969.
Mr. Balser has served on over 25 boards and currently serves on the boards of the Janus Capital Group (NYSE: JNS), Tweedy Browne Funds, Inc., North American Specialty Glass and various non-profit institutions.
